The Dark and Windy Town

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

October 15th was a cold blustery day. I had been driving for about 10 hours. I was passing through this quaint little town called Sekra. Feeling tired, I decided to stop for the night. I came across a motel with a beautiful view of a lake. It was about three in the afternoon and I was exhausted. I walked into the lobby and booked a nights stay.

I got into my room and felt overwhelmingly tired so I flopped on the bed and was out instantly.

All of a sudden my stomach gurgled so loud I woke myself up! I jumped out of bed and realized that

I had been sleeping for hours because it was just getting dark. Feeling energized from my extended napping, I decided to walk around town and find something to eat. There weren't many people out, but the ones that were seemed friendly enough. They did all have a weird vibe to them though. I would say hi to everyone that passed me, but they would just nod and scurry away. Everyone seemed to be wearing long black coats with oversized hoods or big hats. It was cold and flurrying so it was hard to see peoples faces. It seemed like I was walking for quite a while with no luck finding anything open. Even the gas station was closed. As I wandered, it seemed every minute that went by it was continually getting darker outside. What felt like minutes of walking was actually two hours. I started to think to myself, I'm cold and hungry and the weather is getting worse.

On the way back I passed someone and asked them if knew of a place that might be opened to get something to eat, but no one stopped. They just kept walking for good reason. The weather had turned for the worse. The wind became swift with snow whipping so fast that it had an eerie howl to it. I started to run as quickly as I could. I made it back to the motel lobby to ask the clerk if they had a vending machine but it appeared to be closed for the night.Feeling hungry, thirsty and eerily uneasy, I decided to pack my clothes, get in my car and head to the next town.

I came upon a little brick building with an open sign that looked like a bar. I parked the car and ran inside. I suddenly realized it was late and was really hoping they weren't closing. I walked up to the bar and asked the bartender if I could have a drink and some food. He answered sure, I'll get you a menu.

I sat down in front of a bowl of popcorn. I couldn't help myself. I was plowing it into my mouth by the handful trying to make the hunger pains go away. The bartender said, boy.... you must have been starving! I replied.. hell yah! I was on my way home and ran into a little town just north of here where there was a terrible storm and all of the people wore long black coats with hoods or hats.

The bartender asked the name of the town? I said it was called Serka. He started to chuckle then he said, you must be mistaken. All roads leading to that town have been closed for decades.

The whole town burned to the ground. They found that the town was built on a burial site. As soon as he said that, the hair on my arms stood up! I looked down and nervously started to shove more popcorn in my mouth. When I looked up to grab my drink, the bartender was walking towards the back room and all I saw was a long black coat and a hood......
